Vacation Reading Club

Every year we are delighted to take part in the nation-wide Vacation Reading Club.  Its purpose is to encourage children to read for pleasure throughout the summer, so that they do not fall behind when they return to school. 
At the Tinton Falls Library we regularly have well over 200 children signed up for the program, which is completely free.  The children read books of their choice, note the time they spend reading and bring in their records every week for prizes.  In the case of the little ones, parents read to them to encourage the habit of reading. 
Once a week we have a special program on the Club theme, which is suitable for all ages.  The schedule is below.  There is no charge, but we do ask you to sign up for each program, as space is sometimes limited.

The theme for the 2010 Vacation Reading Club is "Make a splash, Read!". 

301 children signed up in 2009.  Let's make it even more this year!

Everyone who completes the program will be invited to a final celebration in August with certificates and rewards.
Parents must remain in the library while children are in the program.
Registration is required for all events.

ALL ABOUT OSPREYS – Crafts, games and stories presented by the American Littoral Society provide interactive fun about osprey birds of prey found around our Jersey Shore area.

UNDER THE SEA ORIGAMI – Create a variety of paper sea creatures for an underwater aquarium scene presented by LB Davis from the Ocean County Library.

RIZZOS REPTILE DISCOVERY – Educational reptile presentation including environmental awareness and recycling education focusing on Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

THE SHARK ZONE – Are you brave enough to dig for shark teeth? Are sharks dangerous? Learn about the life of sharks with slides, crafts and activities.

"The Curse of the Mutating Hand" - Come and experience the exciting Piccirillo’s Science telling Pirates!!
Admittance by Invitation only, for those who completed our Reading Club goals for the summer.
Picnic and Games to follow program.
