Troop 124

Boy Scout Troop 124 conducted a flag retirement ceremony

on Monday, June 14th at the Tinton Falls Village Green.

The United States Flag Code states: "The Flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."

The ceremony was planned and directed by Star Scout Chris Boyko, under the leadership of Scoutmaster Tim Anderson.

Cub Scout Pack 124 and their leadership were there to help, and a number of Tinton Falls residents attended, including Deputy Council President Gary Baldwin and Council President Duane Morrill who thanked the Scouts for their service to the community. Firefighter Brendan Tobin kept a watchful eye on the fire.

Two hundred or more flags were collected in designated containers placed in public buildings around the Borough. Some residents brought their own flags to the ceremony, which they consigned to the fire themselves.
