Boy Scout Troop 124 conducted a Flag Retirement Ceremony
on Flag Day, June 14th, 2011, at the Tinton Falls Village Green.
The United States Flag Code states: "The Flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."
The ceremony was planned and directed by Boy Scout Troop 124 Senior Patrol Leader Edward DeLage under the guidance of Scoutmaster Gary du Bois. Troop Committee Chairman Scott Britton was in charge at the ceremony.
Cub Scout Pack 124 and their leadership were there to help. Tinton Falls Fire Company #1 Firefighters Brendan Tobin, Kyle Johnson and Mike Greco kept a watchful eye on the fire.
Hundreds of flags were collected in designated containers placed in public buildings around the Borough. Some residents brought their own flags to the ceremony, which they consigned to the fire themselves.
