Community Gardens

Crawford House Farmstand is Open Saturdays from 9am - 12noon throughout the summer season (July-Sept.)

The Community Gardens group was established in 2009 as a sub-committee of the Environmental Commission.  Along with their many green ideas, one of which was to start a community garden whereby residents can join in a positive environmental activity while getting to know their fellow residents.  The first community garden was launched at the Historic Crawford House property.  The community gardeners were assisted by the Monmouth County Master Gardeners who were of great help in providing information about designing a community garden along with the experience of planting and growing vegetables.  The Historic Preservation Commission members see the many benefits of having the community garden at the Crawford House.  Not only could the produce be grown there but also sold there with the help of volunteers to support a farm stand.  Working with Environmental Commission, the Historic Preservation Commission established the first community garden at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 2, 2009

To join:  Before the beginning of the growing season, residents can fill out an application to plant in an assigned plot of the garden. The designated coordinator for the Crawford House Community Garden is Denise Catalano.   If you would like to plant and/or volunteer to work at the Crawford House Community Garden, please contact Denise.  The Community Gardens group meets every third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm in the Borough Hall Basement Conference Room - Meeting Dates

GARDEN NEWS:

»On November 9, 2010 Community Gardens members and Riverdale Ave. West residents presented their view points of the newly proposed community garden at Riverdale Ave. West site to the Borough Council.  Research revealed that the proposed land site was not available for this purpose and it was concluded that the community gardens members will need to research a new site working with the Borough Administration.

»Friends of the Crawford House would like to thank all the patrons who visited their farm stand this season.  The volunteers at the farm stand were busy selling the produce from the Crawford House garden every Saturday morning.  The success of the farm stand sales will help with future projects at the Crawford House.
