9/11 Firefighters Memorial

The dedication ceremony was held on the 10th Anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon and Flight 93 in Pennsylvania. Master of Ceremonies, Wayside Fire Company Captain Thomas Wieczerzak wecomed the guests including State Senator Jennifer Beck, Tinton Falls Mayor Michael Skudera, Council President Gary Baldwin, Deputy Council President Andy Mayer, Council member Nancyanne Fama, Borough Administrator Gerry Turning, Police Chief John Scrivanic and the parents of NY Firefighter Arthur Barry as well as a large audience of local firefighters from neighboring towns and Tinton Falls residents. The Wanamassa Fire Company Color Guard presented the colors, accompanied by the Monmouth County Police and Fire Pipes and Drums. Louise Driscoll sang the National Anthem and hero Asbury Park Firefighter Jason Fazio gave an inspiring keynote address. A special plaque in memory of NY Firefighter Arthur Barry, who responded on 9/11/2001, and perished when the towers fell, was presented to his parents who now reside in Tinton Falls. The 9/11 Memorial, which was built by Wayside Firefighters from a steel girder recovered from the site, was blessed and dedicated by Mother Susan Osborne-Mott of Trinity Church of Asbury Park. A Coast Guard helicopter performed a fly over after the memorial was dedicated and the Fire Company provided refreshments after the ceremony.
