Relay for Life
Liberty Park II, Tinton Falls
June 24th, 2011

Tinton Falls held their first ever Relay for Life event which is sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Despite dire weather conditions (heavy rain, tornado warnings, etc.) volunteers came out in support of the event. There were 18 teams who helped raise approximately $20,000 in donations. Part of every RFL event is the Survivors Lap whereby the teams line up to circle the track in celebration of someone they are supporting who has survived cancer and will see another birthday. Again, despite the very difficult weather conditions, the survivors lap was an emotional part of the night. Many other activities scheduled during the night we curtailed or cancelled including the movie. The weather conditions didn’t dampen the spirit of everyone who participated and stayed until morning. Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate at next year’s event. To learn more about this event, please check out the American Cancer Society website.
