A message from the Tinton Falls Office of Emergency Management........
The Tinton Falls Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is in close communication with the Monmouth County OEM during the monitoring of Hurricane Earl. County OEM is reviewing the hurricane activity with the New Jersey OEM and the National Weather Center.
The following information was provided by the National Weather Service: (As of 1pm 9/1/2010)
1) Hurricane Earl is expected to be off the NJ Coast on Friday 9/3 as a Category 2 or 3 storm.
2) Winds will begin to impact the State on Thursday night and continue through the day on Friday with sustained winds being 35-40 MPH along the coast, and significantly less inland.
3) Minor Coastal Flooding is expected at the times of high tide. Some moderate flooding could occur because of the wave action.
4) Waves are expected to be between 10’ & 15’ on the Ocean and between 5’ & 8’ along the coast.
5) There may be some minor back bay flooding because the storm will cover both high tide cycles on Friday.
6) Rainfall is expected to be around 1” with some localized heavier amounts along the immediate coast.
7) The storm will produce strong Rip Currents, Rough Surf and some Beach Erosion.
8) All are encouraged to closely monitor this storm, as a shift to the west of the forecasted track will change the projections significantly.
The National Weather Service is calling for a 30 percent chance of showers in the early hours of Friday morning at the Shore. Later in the day, there is a greater probability of showers with winds gusting up to 37 miles per hour and dangerous surf.
Even though it is projected that New Jersey will be spared the current force Hurricane Earl is exhibiting, it is advised that citizens keep advised of the storm for any changes.
