Monmouth County has notified the Borough that Waste Management will begin a short-term odor control project at the landfill starting Monday, February 2, 2026.
The work will involve installing new gas collection lines along the east side of the landfill, near Shafto Road, closest to surrounding neighborhoods. These gas collectors are designed to capture landfill gases more effectively and reduce odors over time.
The project is expected to last approximately two weeks, weather permitting. During excavation, an odor-neutralizing product will be used extensively to help limit any odors from escaping the site. As each section of work is completed, the new gas lines will be connected daily to the landfill’s vacuum system.
While this is a short-term project, it is an important step in improving odor control in areas closest to residential neighborhoods. If there are any schedule changes or notable impacts, the Borough will share updates with residents.
We appreciate the County’s commitment to transparency and will continue to keep the community informed.
